Welcome to the 2023/24 Salt Life WSA Hoppy Swarts Memorial West Coast Surfing Championships presented by Got Milk! This weekend’s event will be held at Church, San Onofre State Beach.
When you look at the heats, you will notice that times are not listed. Please refer to the schedule for all heat times.
We will be running 4-person heats this weekend. You can download the Stact app ahead of time so that friends and family can follow along during your heats. Please update your app to make sure you have the latest version. Huge shoutout to Stact for offering this to our surfers this weekend! The California State Parks are opening up their event parking lot at Lowers. The parking lot is on your right as you exit the freeway. Parking costs $20 per day and is only payable by cash. From the parking lot, follow the trail down to the event. Stay on the trail to preserve the environment and give yourself at least 15 minutes to get down the trail to the event.
Please take some time to review the 2023/24 Rulebook paying special attention to the Sportsmanship Clause on pg.12 and Heat Preparation Sections on pg. 9. We want to make sure that our competitors are having a positive experience at the WSA events and that our final event is fair to surfers.
We will have plenty of Sticky Bumps Surf Wax on hand for competitors. Also, Salt Life will have discount coupons available at the beach marshal. Sun Bum will be back, bringing the beach games and their sunscreen for everyone. We will be cooking up Kodiak Cakes, hot dogs and chicken tacos this weekend. Got Milk? will provide white and chocolate milk. Water will also be available. GoGo SqueeZ will have their new “Active” product for competitors at the beach marshal.
Make sure to pick up your competitors t-shirt. We recycled a popular Rick Erkeneff design from 2014 for this year’s shirt.
At the culmination of the Championship event, we will crown our 2023-2024 Season Champions! Season Champions will be determined off of the surfer’s top 6 event scores plus West Coast Championship points. We also have some special awards. Salt Life will award $250 Gift Certificates to the boy and girls Sportsmanship Award Winners. We will also recognize longtime WSA Board Member and Competitor, Jay Boldt, for his 50 years of service to WSA.
