MEMO: WSA Head Judge
WSA Salt Creek Apr 11-12 Notes from the head judge.

The judging criteria for this weekends event is as follows:

Good Morning Athletes  -

Looks like we’ll have some surf this weekend. The wind will be a little breezy at times, Saturday/Sunday. The surf will be in the waist to overhead range. The surf conditions should be fair to good at times.

Judging will be focused on the  surfers who can find and execute quality combinations. Some heats may have more opportunities than others. We will also be rewarding single MAJOR powerful and progressive maneuvers if performed in the most critical sections. As always, we are looking for clean execution with, speed, power and good timing/flow between these moments. These will be the comparison points.

Longboard criteria:

The Surfer must perform controlled maneuvers in the critical section of the wave utilizing the entire board and wave  using traditional longboard surfing. The surfer who performs this to the highest degree of difficulty with the most style flow, and grace will receive the highest score for a ride.

Key elements for judges to consider: Nose riding in the critical section of the wave, variety of maneuvers, speed and power, control, commitment, control and foot work!

Push-In and Adaptive Divisions criteria - please view page 5 of the WSA Rulebook “Fundamental Surfing"

Please remember for maneuvers to be deemed complete, the surfer must show control and ride out in front of the white wash. Any loss of control will hinder scoring. Also, please be mindful of crushing sections on surfers.

*** Also please note, if you surf beyond the flag and the outside the competition area, you risk not being seen clearly *** We have a tight contest area at Creek. There will be two flags that you line-up to delineate the north boundary of the south area and the south boundary of the north area. If it is determined by judges that you took off outside of your area the judges will mark the wave with an “X” on their sheets and will not score the wave. Make sure you are in your area when you take off.

Good luck to all athletes this weekend. 🍀

See you on the beach!
